I believe this image to be my most successful yet. The way the light hits the handle of the knife, then creates a highlighted rim around the blade makes this image fascinating. There is detail evident in the handle of the knife that adds some interesting detail to the image, there is also an accurate line of pattern formed which draws attention. However this area of light is slightly overexposed, possibly turning the flash power down could have avoided this. If I was to do this shoot again I would possibly add a over head light source, allowing a soft beam of light to highlight more of the knifes features, although the low key effect accentuates the highlighted features with the ghostly angular effect of the blade being most prolific element. This image is representative of Jan Groover’s work who made use of light and shadow with everyday kitchen utensils.
